Trip Report: Philmont 2021

Philmont is the hardest backpacking trip available for troop 48. It’s an 11 day backpacking trip in New Mexico with over 65 backpacking miles with 100 miles in total. It’s only recommended for the best backpackers as the weather is unpredictable as it went from sun to hail to thunder in the span of one day. Also there is early wake-up calls, opening latrines, sunburns, along with a subpar environment. There was many fun things to do there though as scouts panned for gold, climbed telephone poles, painted cares, climbed to 12,400 feet, smelled and tasted trees along with a COPE course, blacksmithing, and rappelling among many other things scouts did for fun on this trip. This is also good for people who are into guns as you get to shoot shotguns, rifles, and pistols. Even though the conditions were bad the scouts still managed to have a lot of fun and bonding.
