2021 The Emerald Mine / Day Hike / MB Advancement: Trip Report

Photo Gallery

There were around 20 to 30 people on the trip.  When we first got there, we set up camp, ate our dinner, and went to sleep around 10:00pm.  We woke up the next morning at 5:00am to get ready to hike the Boone Fork Trail loop, which was 5 miles.  We got back from the hike at 9:00am sitting at camp ready to leave for Doc Rocks Gem Mine.  We left for Doc Rocks Gem Mine around 10:00am and got their around 11:00am.  We first got a bag of dirt and sifted through it to get some cool rocks and gems!  Then, we went through two merit badge classes (Mining in Society and Geology) that are not offered that frequently!  Next, we bought some cool stuff from the gift shop.  Last, we got a tour of the fossil and gem/rock museum they had!  We went to the Blowing Rock and walked around after Doc Rocks Gem Mine.  There were lots of scenic views at the Blowing Rock.  The scenic views mostly included mountains like Grandfather Mountain, Grandmother Mountain, Hawks Bill Mountain, Table Rock Mountain, and many others.  After the Blowing Rock we went back to camp and made dinner.  We had a traditional T48 campfire and then went to sleep.  We got to sleep in that morning having a nice breakfast. After a bit we cleaned up the campsite and had a church service.  We left for Linville Falls and hiked most of the trails which in total was around 2.5 miles.  At 12:30 we got back from hiking, went to the Linville Falls picnic area, and ate a good lunch.  After lunch we left for CHPC to get back home.
