This Weekend :

🤍Funeral for Mr. Fischer will be Saturday 5/23 at noon. Visitation to be beforehand from 10-11:45am at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. Please attend ❤️

🌼Meet Mrs. Wilkins with (2-4 people from each patrol) to work on May 21 & May 28 in the pollinator garden at Lincoln Elementary school.  It will be awesome  if you can help. Wear gloves and  consider bringing shovels, rakes, and weeding tools.

Join us in honoring our nation’s fallen heroes during two Memorial Day Flag Decoration events in Northeast Tennessee. For more than 75 years, Scouts and community service organizations have partnered to place flags in remembrance of the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.  Everyone wishing to pay their respects is invited to attend.

⚠️ IMPORTANT FOR MOUNTAIN HOME PARTICIPANTS:

This year, volunteers should meet at the MAIN CEMETERY GATE for the opening ceremony. (Previously we met at the gazebo.)

Scouting America, GSUSA, Trail Life, American Heritage Girls, veterans groups, and other service organizations regularly come together for this meaningful tradition.

All volunteers will be instructed to follow Arlington Standards while placing flags throughout the cemeteries. Come help us remember, honor, and serve. 🇺🇸

May 26, 2026 Troop 48 Announcements 

Troop 48 accepts clean used uniforms for the handed down closet as we prepare for summer camp.. 

May Patrol Duties 

• Ceremonies: Eagle  • Food Box: Phoenix  • Game Guides: Panther • PLC 5/12 Host and Troop Meeting Set-up: Flaming Arrow  • Service: Wolf (Clean up and leadership assistance)  •  Can Recycling: Fox (check every week)  

Note all Adult Leaders: Per the rollout last year, everyone has to take Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) by May 31, 2026. Even if your YPT is not expired, please take the new Safeguarding Youth Training to remain current.  A list has been posted on the Parent’s Board, so come mark off your name when completed. 

Medical Forms for Summer Camp and Other Events – Please check your medical form status to see if you are current. Scouts and adults must have a current medical form to attend Troop 48 Outings. Forms A&B are required for outings less than 72 hours (typical weekend outings). Forms A, B & C are required for outings longer than 72 hours (like Summer Camp).  Blank Forms are found here: 2026 Health Forms  

Summer Camp (June 14-20).  Final payment is NOW DUE, so please see Mr. Browning to settle up including class fees.. A class schedule has been printed in case you forgot what you signed up for. Also, if not already registered on the T48.org event, please do so to select housing (cabin, tent, or hammock) and arrange transportation (going and coming).  Estimated 11-12 vehicles to haul the scouts and gear..

Cherokee, NC Truck-In Friday, May 29 Please meet at CHPC at 8:00 AM. We will load personal gear and depart by 8:30 AM. We will return by 5:00  PM on Sunday, May 31. Registration is closed. Truck-In camping at a beautiful mountain campground. Visit museums, possibly earn the American Indian Culture merit badge, take a scenic river tubing adventure, and visit Clingman’s Dome. Work on cooking requirements. Make sure you are fully paid for the event next Tuesday. Final trip planning, gear preparation and loading onto the trailer will be conducted on Tuesday, May 26th. Please plan to attend if you are registered.

Supertrip USS Yorktown – July 24-27. Registration for this event closes May 31. Final payment is due now. Hurry to get one of the remaining spots. This trip was done in the past with overwhelming acclaim. Many of the participants still remember it as their favorite scouting trip with Troop 48. We will sleep on the USS Yorktown, explore Patriots Point museums, camp in a very nice campground with water activities, fishing, and crabbing, a harbor cruise to Ft. Sumter, and tour the dark streets of Charleston on a late-night ghost tour

August 7-9 Dick Tracy Rock: If your family has a boat, please see Brad Moncla. 

We also need lifeguards.  Opportunity to have a class at the YMCA just for Troop 48 with a minimum of 15.  If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard, please let Brad Moncla know ASAP. Working with the Aquatic Center on June 5th and June 26th weekends for training.

Note: We love that our scouts become friends outside of scouting events. With summer approaching and scouts spending time outside of scouting opportunities for being in a car together becomes a question. According to Scouting America’s transportation policy, drivers for official Scouting activities must be at least 18 years old. Consequently, youth under 18 are prohibited from driving, even for themselves, during sanctioned trips. Scouts can not drive scouts to scouting events . We appreciate that when your scouts are not at or going to scouts you may have other home rules however this is a scouting organization policy. Additionally All participants must wear seatbelts, and the maximum driving time is restricted to 10 hours per 24-hour period.for trip planning

Please register online at:  Sequoyah Council – 2025 Cub Scout Day and Twilight Camps .

Sequoyah Council Cub Scout Adventure Series is being offered (for the first time) to approximately 250 youth at the Kingsport Boys and Girls Club this summer. Meetings will be held each Thursday, 1:30 – 4:30, from May 28th through July 23rd. Adult Scouters and Scouts 16 and up are needed to make this a success. Please consider volunteering to help one session, or multiple sessions. The more help we have the better. Sign up here. If time slots are full, email us your desired time slots. Paperwork and a free background check will be required.

Harvest of Hope Community Garden located in downtown Kingsport has some raised beds in need of repair. Scouts who will be interested in repairing them to obtain service time for Citizenship in the Community or perhaps Woodwork merit badge. 

Adult and youth leadership, 

Laura Williams is the VBS director at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsport. This year’s VBS theme is Camp Firelight and she was wondering if one of our leaders would like to come and speak to the children about camping safety or something to go with this theme. Each year they have the Kingsport Fire Dept and Police K9 unit visit during VBS. It would be during the afternoon, the week of June 1-5. Preferably Monday or Tuesday June 1-2. Please let me know asap she asked for me to let her know either way. Thanks.

Time to start planning: 2026 Crazy 8’s July 16, 2026.  Troop48  – Barking Lot just before entrance to the stadium (stadium)  3k and 8k 

• Medals @ 3:30pm – Meet at the finish line
• Little 8’s @ 5:30pm – Meet at the finish line
• Barking lot @ 7:30pm – Outside the stadium. There will be a Banner and We Run Events Tent.

We need multiple volunteers for this event!!  We as well encourage a running team. We need volunteers both youth and adults
