June 10, 2025 Announcements
8:00pm Summer Camp Talk mandatory for all first-year scouts. Parents are encouraged to attend to get answers to questions.
Check the Brother’s Closet for extra scouting uniform parts, t-shirts, and hiking boots.
Snack donations for the week!!!! Troop 48 likes to put out healthy snacks throughout the day as we have learned that our busy scouts need a little bit more than camp dining.
Repay Food Buyers – Please be sure to check with your food buyers for outings and pay for the cost of food. Food buyers spend their own money to purchase food for the patrol and they need to be reimbursed by the patrol scouts. Especially true for big trips like Cumberland Island.
We still have lost and found from Cumberland Island including a bike!
June patrol duties
• Ceremonies: Wolf • Food Box: Shark • Game Guides: Eagle • PLC (6/10) Host and Troop Meeting Set-up: Phoenix • Service: Panther (Clean up and leadership assistance) • Can Recycling: Fox /Panther (check every week, even if no cans brought into the gym) • Grounds: Flaming Arrow Both of these latter two duties should be done while there is still daylight
Medical Forms: Parts A, B, and C are mandatory for Summer Camp. Note that Part C must be signed by a medical professional. Forms can be downloaded here. Make sure to download the “Camping” form. Not sure about your medical form, check here for the status. NASA Space Camp and all weekend outings and campouts require current health forms, Parts A and B.

A text or email to those not registered in addition to an email invite from NASA Space Camp. A parent has to go online (use the link in the email) to register your scout(s) and yourself if applicable. This trip is full.
Summer Camp – Please register on T48.org. This information is needed to select a housing choice (default is cabin) and prepare a transportation plan. An introduction meeting for new scouts/parents will be held on June 10th, including what to pack!
June planning:
10 PLC / Summer camp talk
17 CDC Summer camp – Troop meeting at CHPC for those not going. Perfect time for individual attention for advancement or games.
24 Sullivan Heights MS ballpark for kickball
6/24 Sullivan Heights MS ballpark for kickball
When we return from camp, Troop 48 will have the traditional kickball night at the Sullivan Heights Middle School (former South HS) front ballfield. Park in the lots or in front of the building but not along the main entrance road. Rain plans are a regular troop meeting at CHPC.
6/27-29 Mischa Mokwa. Get signed up on T48.org for this two-night backpacking trip or overnight truck-in camping. This is a great trip. The campsite is great and has access to short hikes with beautiful views. There is also a gift shop and wilderness trail museum that is very educational. We may have to cancel the truck-in camping if no one else signs up.
National Jamboree 2026, July 22-31, 2026. Ten fun days at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia with thousands of other scouts. $1,560 per person fee plus council costs. Registration not yet on the Sequoyah Council website. The Council is looking for an adult male to lead the boy contingent.
Parents of those working on Scout or Star ranks. They have a requirement which must have your involvement. “With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide and view the Personal Safety Awareness videos (with your parent or guardian’s permission).” The first item is a pamphlet found in the front of the scout handbook (or here). The second is on Scouting America. To communicate this completion, just sign and date the front cover of the pamphlet (or send a written message if it is missing).
Adult Leaders: YPT is now SYT: Safeguarding Youth Training. Read here for details. While YPT focuses mostly on preventing abuse, SYT includes information on SAFE: supervision, assessment, fitness and skill, and equipment and environment. The 90-minute course is now required when YPT becomes due. (Good news is that the refresher might only be 15-minutes.)
