Troop 48 Announcements – March 26, 2024 

This Weekend:

Feed The Fire event. It is the 10th anniversary, which serves in honor of Weston Keeton who passed away following a heart and lung transplant. The family organizes this event each year for fire departments all over the world.  Please help by donating treats and drinks to local firefighters. 

Eagle Patrol is heading up Troop 48’s planning ans is meeting on Saturday, March 23rd at 10am for Feed the Fire in the CHPC parking lot. We will be delivering food to the two Fire Depts in Colonial Heights. If you want to help you can donate food, snacks, drinks, etc. They can be store bought or homemade. If you are unable to attend but want to donate items you can drop them off that morning at 9:45am at CHPC or contact Amy Taylor at 423-863-4943 if you need to meet at another time.

Troop 48 Announcements – March 26, 2024 

Scout cards: Scouts earn 75% commission  Money turn-in deadline is currently April 1.

Scouts only have to sell just under 50 cards to pay for summer camp!

Patrol Duty!!! Rotation for March > April

  • Game Guides:  Flaming Arrow > Fox 
  • PLC host: Wolf > Flaming Arrow (COH/PLC 4/9)
  • Service (including All can recycling project):  Eagle > Wolf 
  • West Bank:  Phoenix > Eagle Please begin mowing 

Outdoor Code – Every scout and adult leader should learn the below words since used in some of the opening ceremonies for troop meetings: 

As an American, I will do my best to –

Be clean in my outdoor manners.

Be careful with fire.

Be considerate in the outdoors.

Be conservation minded.

Backpacking talk by Mr. Shone was interrupted by the fire alarm so that will be continued 3/26. Also distribution of Incomplete MB sheets from MBU and mandatory book check. Deadline for recognitions at April 9 Court of Honor (including Eagle biographies). 

Obed Truck in Camping, Hiking (Friday to Sunday, April 5 – 7) 

Registration on T48.org is Open. Trip sheet and information on the Junior Ranger program. You can earn a patch. This trip replaces our traditional Back Bone Rock trip due to park closure. Rappelling, bouldering, hiking, fishing, and truck-in camping, all available.

OMBO – Operation Merit Badge Opportunity (Saturday, April 13)

This event is a Merit Badge University just for Troop 48.  Register your top two picks for classes on T48.org from Automotive Maintenance, Citizenship in Society (reserved for upper ranks/older scouts – only three slots left), Game Design, Personal Management, Sustainability, or a community service option for Citizenship in the Community at Hope Haven morning and then Petworks afternoon.  Class sizes are limited to 12 each, so get your T48.org choices submitted early as filling by order of submission.  $2/person fee for using the church

Summer Camp (June 16-22) 

Full payment is due to Mr. Browning by April 1. Patrol Competition – be the first to have all attending registered in T48 and fully paid to win the Patrol Summer Camp Challenge.

Register on T48.org to indicate preference for cabin, camp tent, hammock, or personal tent.

Mr. Hasler needs to know if you’re interested in going to summer camp to request more spaces to register for classes.  New scouts can register for classes before their youth application is processed.  Recommend Eagle Bound for early outdoor skills, Learn to Swim or Swimming merit badge, and an elective merit badge.

Hiking merit badge

Mr. Shone is leading this Eagle-required merit badge, which is an alternative to Swimming or Cycling. Two more 10-mile and one 20-mile hikes remain to be planned and enjoyed.  Second adult leader is needed for each hike.

NEW YORK RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR

December 27 – 30, 2024

See New York City decorated for Christmas!! An excellent sightseeing tour of NYC is planned including Central Park, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Broadway, Times Square and many other sights in the “Big Apple”. Visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral and watch ice skating and see the huge Christmas tree at Rockefeller Plaza! Ride to the Top of One World Trade Center! Take a boat tour on the Hudson River near Liberty Island to see The Statue of Liberty as well as Ellis Island!  Tour includes reserved seat tickets to Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular featuring the world famous Rockettes! Accommodations are located in the heart of the Theater District in Manhattan. What a way to start the Christmas Season!
