2021 Scouting Recap
Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church

Troop 48, most of 2021, was comprised of 92 Scouts (boys and girls), and 55 adult leaders.

Activities: Throughout the year, 261 Troop 48 Scouts participated in a variety of major scouting activities including Klondike Derby, Conservation Projects, Patrol Outings, Laurel Falls Hike, Channels Hike, Merit Badge Universities, JLT, Emerald Mine Hikes, and the special 75th Anniversary Celebration.

Attendance: Troop 48 Scouts attended 2,560 Scout Meetings, 1,821 times in full uniform.

Awards: A total of 87 Troop 48 scouts earned special awards, including Cyber Chip, 50 miler, Den Chief Service, Fire’n Chit, Totin’ Chip, Polar Bear Swim, Up with the Sun Run, Paddleboarding, Rifle Dime Club, Trainer’s Edge, Snorkeling, Philmont Awards, Honor Scout Awards, and National Honor Patrol Awards.

Camping: Troop 48 scouts spent a total of 892 nights in the woods, camping at Camp Davy Crockett, Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, Backbone Rock, Price Park, Charleston SC, Dick Tracy Rock, Philmont, Northern Tier, Carden’s Bluff, and various Patrol Campouts in the area.

Churches: Troop 48 Scouts attended Church Services for a total of 1,277 services.

Merit Badges: Troop 48 scouts earned a total of 265 merit badges in 84 different subjects.

Rank Advancements: Troop 48 advanced in rank a total of 66 scouts, as follows:

162 4/13/2021 Nathan Michhalik Built a footbridge in Laurel Run Park (Church Hill)

163 4/13/2021 Vincent Gould Built an open donation community library for Indian Springs Elementary

164 8/17/2021 Avery Padgett Provided supplies, beds, and enrichment for shelter animals

165 11/16/2021 Luke Peters Built beds for kids who did not have one in Sullivan County.

166 11/16/2021 Tristan Fox Built and installed an awning and 2 flower boxes for St. Marks United Methodist Church in Kingsport.

167 11/16/2021 David Davenport Paver patio for Sullivan West Volunteer Fire Dept.

Service Hours: Troop 48 scouts completed a total of 1,933 hours of service, including conservation projects, eagle projects, supporting the cub scouts, planning and performing scout training, mowing west bank, Christmas caroling, volunteering at fire departments, churches, schools, etc., just to list a
