Information about the upcoming Bays Mountain Backpacking Introductory Backpacking Trip
General Information
Bays Mountain Park Thru hike to Laurel Run Park September 26- 27, 2020
In Compliance with:
BSA Polices and Bays Mountain Park Covid 19 Guidelines.
- This event will be limited to two groups of backpackers.
- Each Group can only have a total of 2 Adult Leaders, 2 Senior Scout Leaders and a total of 10 Scouts/Parent Combinations
( Max Total of 14 individuals per group)
- The two groups will be formed in advance, and they will meet separately, with at least one hour separation in backpacking departure from Bay Mountain Park. We will utilize the upper and lower camping areas – separating the two groups.
- If you enter any part of the Bays Mountain Facility (examples: Bathroom or Lobby) and face mask is required. A face mask not required outside of the facility, but social distancing is a requirement.
- Pick up at Laurel Run or Parking at Laurel Run Park and or Bays Mountain Park will need to be determined by no later than September 16th.
Adult Information
Two Groups – max 28 Individuals total
– 2 adults- 2 senior scouts- 10 parents/scouts combo
Each group would leave at least 1 hr apart
Each group would have a designed camp area (Upper or lower)
Vic has the dates requested – booked for us
Face Masks are required in any of the State facilities
Social Distancing is required in all areas of the state park
T48 must submit a list ( at least one week prior to the event) of individuals participating, time of arrival and departure, number of cars being parked at BMP (Megan is our contact at BMP).
Parking at Laurel Run Park Parking is a possibility – I am working out the details with Becky Smith (423)293-3514
We would prefer that drop off at BMP occur and pickup occur at Laurel Run Park with no return to BMP required.
Itinerary

Day One
Saturday morning 9/26/2020 : Meet at the planetarium parking lot :
Pack School and “Outdoor Code & leave No Trace” and prepacking at the Bays Mountain shelter.
We will be able to make pack adjustments, run home and change out equipment or do what we need to do to make this an enjoyable backpacking experience.
From 1 to 4 – hike around the Lake to our camp location – roughly 3 miles. Setup camp at the cabin site and enjoy the evening – complete any scouting requirements – Knot Tying, Tent Setup, Fire Building, Cooking, etc.
Day Two
Sunday, Eat Breakfast and break camp. From 9 to 1, Hike along the mountain ridges and through the Laurel water falls to Laurel Run Park- roughly 4 miles.
Transportation and other topics will be discussed during upcoming Troop 48 Patrol Meetings.
