    • 2021 Cycling Merit Badge 50-mile ride on the Creeper trail (the hard way)
  • WHEN? 
    • SATURDAY 18SEP2021
    • Start at 8:00 am
    • Plan to finish riding before 4:00pm

DETAILS:

Bring a water bottle and/or hydration pack.  There are water spigots available every 10-12 miles or so for refills.

Have snacks handy.  Hours of continuous riding will deplete your energy reserves.  Bring your favorite food to refuel along the way.  Here are some suggestions.

  • Trail mix
  • Energy bars (clif…, power…, granola…, fig…, etc.)
  • Beef jerky
  • Peanut butter and jelly wraps
  • Dried fruits

Whatever you do, Don’t Bonk!

Have some cash just in case you want to stop at one of the trail cafes along the way for some food.

  • Or you may need to buy a spare tube in Damascus at one of the bike shops.
  • Or you may decide to quit and call an Uber for a ride home…

See you there!

We’ll get the uphill portion out of the way the first 25 miles and then “coast” back to the finish.

The fine print…

REMEMBER:  RECORD EACH OF YOUR RIDES IN YOUR MERIT BADGE WORKSHEETS!  For each ride I’ll expect you to have something written down for the following:

  • DATE
  • MILES
  • Route
  • Most interesting things seen (yes, it’s in the workbook!)

To receive credit for this and any future rides all participants MUST:

*       Have a helmet

*       Ride safely – no horseplay

*       Have water

*       Bring a bicycle in good mechanical condition

*       Be prepared for rain, just in case. No special gear is required, just plan on being wet if there are afternoon showers.
