2021 Laurel Falls (Day Hike)

When

03/20/2021
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Primary goal of this trip is to accomplish the 5-mile hike requirement for Second Class or Hiking merit badge.  If for the merit badge, then your own trip plan needs to be submitted beforehand.

NOAA Forecast for Saturday 3/20:  Sunny, with a high near 59

Carpool to leave CHPC by 9:15 am.  I-26 east to Exit 24/US321 to just inside Elizabethton for TN362 bypass to US19E south to Hampton, then turn to stay on US321 until trailhead reached.  The USFS parking area is small, thus hopefully sufficient spots as not allowed to park along highway.  Will carpool as much as possible from CHPC.  If meeting at the trailhead, please arrive by 10:00 am.

We’ll take the Hampton Blueblaze Trail to the Appalachian Trail along the Laurel Fork stream.  For those working on Second Class requirement, you’ll need to be able to read the map to be able to point out where we are when asked – and make the correct turns.  Enjoy the waterfall and lunch while using handheld GPS to locate an nearby ammo box geocache.  Return route will be up many rock steps (be able to go up your home stairs six times consecutively without being winded) to take the high water trail back past the A.T. shelter.  Merge on the path used coming in to reach the parking lot.
