Barking Lot just before entrance to the stadium – 3k and 8k races

  • Medals @ 3:30pm – Meet at the finish line
  • Little 8’s @ 5:30pm – Meet at the finish line
  • Barking lot @ 7:30pm – Outside the stadium. 

We will need five scouts for each station. Please sign up ASAP with Mr. Elizabeth Wilkins.  This event also needs additional adults to help Mr & Mrs Wilkins and Mr. Sprinkle!!

July patrol duties

• Ceremonies: Flaming Arrow  • Food Box: Wolf  • Game Guides: Shark  • PLC (7/8) Host and Troop Meeting Set-up: Eagle  • Service: Phoenix (Clean up and leadership assistance)  • Can Recycling:  Panther  (check every week, even if no cans brought into the gym)  • Grounds: Fox   Both of these latter two duties should be done while there is still daylight and have an adult leader with them while outside 

Trip fees!!  Please check with Mr. Browning regarding your scout account balance. It should be zero or positive before the next trip – or Board of Review.  

NASA Space Camp Pathfinder Program, Thursday, July 17 – Sunday, July 20

We plan to depart CHPC at 6:30 AM on Thursday, July 17th. We will spend Thursday in the Chattanooga area and drive to NASA Space Camp on Friday. Please contact Mr. Browning for a detailed itinerary and packing list.

July 12 MOVIN’ & GROOVIN BACK-TO-SCHOOL EVENT! 

NOON to 3pm at Ft. Henry Mall 

Join Mrs Browning and Mrs. Hamilton, CJ and Cole in this amazing recruitment opportunity.  (Counts for First Class #10 requirement; Invite someone to a Troop meeting.  Could earn the Recruiter Strip if they join. ) 

Hasbrouck Memorial Hike, Saturday, July 12 8:00 a.m., meet at CHPC parking lot.  Carpooling is important as parking at Carvers Gap fills quickly.  The group should be back in Kingsport between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m. Troop 48 will be joining members of the Hasbrouck family at the trailhead at 10:00am  

APPALACHIAN TRAIL HIKE – CARVERS GAP to GRASSY RIDGE BALD AND BACK, 5.0 MILES

Wear and pack gear appropriate for the weather, along with lunch and drinking water.

Mr. Hasbrouck’s will be spread discretely along the Appalachian Trail on Roan Mountain.

If scouts use a topo map to guide the group, then this hike completes the Second Class requirement.

Adult Leaders:  YPT is now SYT: Safeguarding Youth Training.  

Read here for details. While YPT focuses mostly on preventing abuse, SYT includes information on SAFE: supervision, assessment, fitness and skill, and equipment and environment.  The 90-minute course is now required when YPT becomes due.  

Summer camp follow-up – 115 (and counting) merit badges completed plus other specific activities like COPE and paddleboarding. Bring your scout handbook to record your progress towards all ranks.  Incomplete MB sheets are being distributed. Some are just one or two individual discussion requirements, so could be finished quickly.  Troop 48 is looking for a Merit Badge Counselor to help finish Exploration MB with a virtual visit to a STEM research website.

August 8-10 Dick Tracy Rock Trip consists of backpack-style tent camping on an island (sometimes) in Cherokee Lake, about 3 miles from Camp Davy Crockett.  All gear, except for patrol water jugs, needs to be in backpacks (no coolers).  Meals will be prepared by ad hoc food groups from their pre-planned menus.  Will use cooking fires and/or backpacking stoves (no propane stoves), thus suitable for Cooking MB.  Activities include water skiing, extra canoeing, swimming with life jackets and shoes, gravity assisted descending from “Dick Tracy Rock,” arrowhead hunting, fishing, etc.

August 30th. Surgoinsville RiverFront Festival. Troop 48 Color Guard leads a flag retirement ceremony at this event. Please contact Adam if you are interested in helping with the flag retirement.
