Charles B. Hasbrouck

Greetings scouting community
Mr. Charlie Hasbrouck lost his fight with Parkinson’s disease Tuesday February 23,24 and went off to permanent scout camp.
He was a great father to his three sons and gave them wings along with wonderful guidance about the natural world.
Mr. Hasbrouck did the same with several hundred Boy Scouts for 56 years and helped as many as 150 boys achieve Eagle Scout.
His motto was to “keep the outing in scouting” with monthly camping, hiking, and backpacking trips and many special trips throughout the US as well as England.
Mr.Hasbrouck was keen on sustainability in the troop through adult leaders and eventually helped create the largest troop in Sequoyah Council.
Involving women leaders and having sisters participate helped strengthen the family bonds of scouting.
Mr.Hasbrouck was born in Bladenboro, NC in 1932 where he hunted and fished with his father. He finished high school at 16 years old and graduated from NC State with a mechanical engineering degree.
With his ROTC training he spent a short time in the Air Force where he met
Mrs. Hasbrouck in Lincoln, Nebraska. They married in 1955 and moved to Kingsport for his 47-year career at Eastman.
The Hasbrouck’s traveled extensively and ultimately visited all 50 states and seven continents. As a family they took many long camping trips throughout the US and fished at almost every stop.
Hearing the memories It’s hard to imagine the five family members traveled in a station wagon and slept in a tent but that was how things were done then.
Mr.Hasbrouck had a strong will and taught his sons to persevere no matter how hard things became.
It’s not surprising that Mr. Hasbrouck only lasted four months after the passing of Mr. Hasbrouck as they were a team in many ways. The strong family bond they created will persist through their sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren and Scouts of all ages. We can only hope to live the example they provided. We will miss them greatly.
This amazing man will live on in the hearts of many . His ability to encourage and motivate with his leadership and wisdom his empowerment and exceptional qualities as a leader.
Mr. Hasbrouck gave his life to serve for 56 years he served
