TROOP 48 BSA — TRIP INFORMATION

2026 Sequoyah Council Klondike Derby

Assemble @CHPC 5:00 PM Friday February 20 or @CDC 8:00 AM Saturday February 21

Adult Leader NEEDS: • Volunteer to cook to allow youth to focus on events Saturday morning. Provide Transportation (patrol boxes, sleds) to and from Camp Davy Crockett

• Uniform Expectations Travel to Camp Davy Crockett Class A (NO civilian hats, except watch cap) @ the Klondike Derby Class B (NO civilian hats, except watch cap) please prepare for rain!!!!

Friday Dinner, Sat & Sun. Breakfast

Meal provided by Troop 48 Adults, mess kits and cups required.

Saturday Dinner in Dining Hall

Saturday Lunch Each Scout brings a bagged lunch

Klondike Events: Day Pack with lunch (required), Patrol Sled and equipment (see sled list & T48 checklist)

Normal truck-in camping equipment and supplies dress for the weather!!!

Camping *** sleeping pad for cabins** Dress and bring clothes appropriate for cold weather conditions.

Outing includes overnight camping at Camp Davy Crockett Friday and Saturday night; Friday night is optional. If arriving Saturday, check-in is from 7:00 – 8:00 AM. We “Should be” in Black Bear campsites. PLEASE let us know if you are not attending full trip

Promote maximum event participation in competition by being prepared, review scout skills, a variety of Scout skill will be challenged at this events  

Sled inspections will be conducted at the first event station for each patrol. Please be prepared.

A campfire and awards ceremony will be held from 8:00 – 9:30 PM on Saturday. On Sunday, we will clean up and arrive home 11:30 am 

February 24, 2026 Troop Announcements

Scouts BSA Troop 48, Kingsport, TN News

Order of the Arrow (OA) Election on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 7:00 PM.  

To hold the election, Troop 48 needs at least 50% attendance of 71 scouts this evening. 

There are nine candidates on the ballot (at least First Class rank and 15 nights camping in tents during the past two years).

MBU March 7 at Northeast State Community College Blountville, TN  

Cutoff for Troop 48 registration is February 24.  Ensure you have paid $30 for Scouts (patch, lunch, and up to two classes), $25 for Adults (patch, lunch and up to two classes), or $10 for Non-Participating Adults (patch and lunch).  Everyone is to meet at NESCC by 8:30am.  

Philmont Cavalcade – Final payment of $607.50 for the entire crew is due March 1, 2026. Please make individual payments to Mr. Browning by February 24th.

Thanks to all families who contributed to the Scouting for Food drive.  The CHPC Blessing Box closet is now stuffed to benefit the food-insecure for a while.

CHPC invites all to attend:

Four special Sunday night Bible studies will be held during Lent at 5:00 pm from February 22 through March 15. Palm Sunday will be March 29, and Easter Sunday will be on April 5.

February patrol duties:

• Ceremonies: Flaming Arrow  • Food Box: Wolf  • Game Guides: Fox  • PLC (2/10) Host and Troop Meeting Set-up: Eagle  • Service: Phoenix (Clean up and leadership assistance)  • Can Recycling: Panther (check every week)  

WPSP Conservation Event, February 28th Gather in WPSP Duck Island parking lot by 9am to split into crews to pick up recyclables and trash on the island (including in the woods) plus mainland if additional two-deep adult leadership is available.  Afterwards, another scouting requirement will be offered depending on choice made at the prior troop meeting (and weather). Let us know if you would like Orienteering or a Rocket Launch, weather depending.

February 28th Noon Garage Cleaning Attendance from each patrol is QM and anyone who would like to participate in cleaning the Troop garage. Confirm plans with Grant.

March 3rd Troop Meeting Mr. Jason Booher, Sullivan County Election Commissioner, will be attending to cover the First Class requirement to discuss the constitutional rights and obligations of a U.S. citizen.  The entire troop will attend the ~20 minutes sharing starting around 7:30pm. 

Boone Trail District Banquet – March 5th, 6:30 PM at Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, Blountville, TN. Come celebrate as the district recognizes adult leaders who have earned special awards and assisted so many scouting units. A delicious meal will be served. Registration is open.  Closing on February 27th.

CHPC Spring Lock In – March 13th

Registration is open for the ever popular event.  Adult leadership (coordinator) is needed.

Get Ready for CHPC’s Annual Garage Sale happening on March 27 & 28. Donations may be dropped starting Saturday, March 21. Please speak with Doris Fields or Karen Dale to learn more or to sign up to help.

Boone Trail District “Zomberee”– April 10-12, Tipton Haynes Historic Site, Johnson City. Truck In camping and tons of fun. Register on T48.org.

Service Opportunity- Meadowview Dog Show – April 11, 17: Organizers of this event require help on April 11 (Saturday) to unload equipment and supplies to set up the show. They also require help on April 17 (Friday) to help take down and load equipment and supplies. They plan to donate leftover packaged food and money  to the troop. This service project will require up to 6 scouts and 2 adults in the afternoon to assist. Please let Mr. Browning or Ms. White know if you would like to help.

Sequoyah Council Expo – Save the date – May 1-3, 2026. The traditional Sequoyah Council Expo is back for the first time since Covid to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Sequoyah Council. How many older scouts remember this fun filled weekend? Camping, Vendor Booths, Food Trucks, Exhibitions, Unit Demonstrations and much more. The event will take place at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Abingdon, VA.

Camp Davy Crockett Summer Camp (June 14-22) 

Actions required:

  • Next payment ($150 total with prior deposit) is now due in early February.   Troop 48 made a ~$4,000 bank transfer for thismonth.
  • For those that have paid the above amount, see Mr. Hasler to sign up now to obtain classes you want.
  • Register on T48.org (booking link) to indicate your housing preference (default is Cabin, options for CDC Tent, T48 tent, personal tent, and personal hammock).
  • Arrange for an annual check-up to have a current medical form in the troop files.

Sea Base 2027 trip is  December 27, 2027, to January 2, 2028.

Supertrip 2026 – USS Yorktown – July 24-27, 2026. This event is open for registration with a deposit of $100 required. This trip was done in the past with overwhelming acclaim. Many of the participants still remember it as their favorite scouting trip with Troop 48. We will sleep on the USS Yorktown, explore Patriots Point museums, camp in a very nice campground with water activities, fishing, and crabbing, a harbor cruise to Ft. Sumter, and tour the dark streets of Charleston on a late night ghost tour.

It’s physical time as we prepare for our busy spring and summer season events all participating scouts must have a physical!!

Scouting America ( BSA) requires all participants to submit an Annual Health and Medical Record (AHMR) updated annually for all activities. Parts A and B are needed for all events, while Part C (a physical exam) is required for events lasting over 72 hours, such as resident camp or high-adventure trips. 

Key Rules and Regulations:

Validity: Forms are valid for one year through the last day of the month the physical was conducted.

Parts Required:

Parts A & B: General health history, parental consent, and risk hold harmless agreement for all activities.

Part C: Pre-participation physical signed by a certified health care provider (MD, DO, NP, PA) for events over 72 hours.

High-Adventure/Long-Term Camp: A full, up-to-date Part C physical is mandatory for any long-term camp (over 72 hours).
