Earning through fundraising!
The Sequoyah Council believes in providing a simple way for Scouts to fund their adventures and learn the value of hard work by earning their own way while supporting a local business.
This year we have partnered with Big Poppa Corn, a Pick Tennessee Company. Every kernel counts- all the proceeds stay in the region, and more than half fuel local Scouting programs!

Hunger Awareness Month – Scouting for Food: planning should be confirmed now by Patrol leadership Please confirm planning with Mrs.Tanner or Mrs. Wilkins
Note : Troop 48 is doing a substantial drive for food for Second Harvest Food Bank during the month of SEPTEMBER (Hunger Awareness Month). Each patrol has been in charge of planning a pair of outings… one week to drop off bright orange labeled bags in pre-determined neighborhoods and the following week to pick up the donated goods from the porches of the chosen neighborhood. Each patrol is firming up plans for Hunger Awareness month Scouting for Food. Neighborhoods and dates are picked! Now, drop off the orange labeled bags that you will receive on Tuesday, 9/2 and then return to retrieve filled bags a week later. We hope to fill the barrels to benefit the Second Harvest food bank!
The Patrols with the highest participation from patrol members will win prizes!
Considerations:
- planning a pair of dates in September that are a week apart.
- Having a truck, SUV, or minivan to pick up food on the return date..
- Getting as much group participation as possible.
- Dressing in class A for drop off and pick up if possible.
- Your patrol needs to decide on a neighborhood you know well OR ask Ms. Wilkins or Ms. Tanner for a route. ONE patrol per neighborhood… first come first served. (target approx 150 houses)
We will have prizes for the patrols that report the highest percentage of participants.
Keep Kingsport Beautiful (KKB) is working to schedule a handful of larger group garden workdays over the next month or so. Of the six pollinator gardens KKB has helped establish within KCS, currently there is a strong need for larger volunteer groups (>10 at a time) over at Jackson Elementary School. Would Troop 48 be interested in partnering with us on any of the following dates:
- Afternoon of Friday 9/5
- Morning of Saturday 9/6
- Afternoon of Friday 9/12
- Morning of Saturday 9/13
The Jackson garden was established in Spring 2024 and is by far the largest as it occupies roughly 6,400 sq ft. Unfortunately it has also been one of the weedier gardens. Thanks to the help of many dedicated volunteers, especially last fall and this spring, significant progress has been made. However, it’s not quite where it needs to be.

The pumpkins arrive for the annual CHPC Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, September 27 at 9 am. Please make plans to come and help unload the truck in support of this ministry.
