2024 Scouting Recap

Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church

Throughout 2024, a total of 81 unique scouts (boys and girls) participated in Troop 48 activities and attended meetings at CHPC. The troop also had 71 registered adult leaders.

Activities:Throughout the year 202481 different Troop 48 Scouts, participated in 138 scouting activities including Klondike DerbyPractice, Klondike Derby, Conservation Projects, Dick Tracy Rock, OA Events, Patrol Outings, Various Hikes, Orienteering, Channels Hike, Merit Badge Universities, JLT, Color guardsNavitat Canopy, Snow Tubing, Fun Fest Parade, Crazy 8 Service, Cherokee Trip, New York City Trip, CHPC Pool Party, CHPC Pumpkin Patch, Continuous Campfire – Food Drive, and Scout Sunday Service. The troop sent participants to High Adventure camps including the Bechtel Summit, Philmont, Sea Base, and NOAC.

Attendance: Troop 48 Scouts, on 2,120 individual occurrences, attended Scout Meetings

Awards: Troop 48 scouts earned 138 special awards, including the Cyber Chip, Blacksmithing, Botany, Dairy Farming, Master at Arms, Woodturning, Den Chief Service, Fire’n Chit, Totin’ ChipPolar Bear Swim, Up with the Sun Run, Paddleboarding, Rifle Dime Club, Trainer’s Edge, Recruiter, Snorkeling, Mile Swim, Honor Scout Awards, God and Country, Sea Base Captain’s Club, and the Triple Crown Award. One scout earned the prestigious National Outdoor and World Conservation Awards.

Camping:A total of 85 Troop 48 scouts spent a total of 1,095 nights camping, at Camp Davy Crockett, Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, Obed Recreational AreaBays Mountain Park, Dick Tracy Rock, OA Outings, Cherokee, Virgin Falls, Warriors Path State Park, Grayson Highlands, Hungry Mother State Park, Cumberland GapSea Base, Bechtel Summit, and various Patrol Campouts in the area.

Churches: Troop 48 Scouts attended 1,880 Church Servicesthroughout the year.

Merit Badges: A total of 64 Troop 48 scouts earned 299 merit badges.

Rank Advancements: Troop 48 advanced in rank a total of 67 scouts, as follows:

Service Hours: Troop 48 scouts completed a total of 4,124 hours of service, including conservation projects, eagle projects, supporting the cub scouts, planning and performing scout training, Christmas caroling, volunteering at fire departments, churches, schools, etc., just to list a few.
