February 11, 2025 Announcements

February 15th – Troop 48 has been invited to Troop 240’s Klondike Derby. ASAP please let Julieann White know if you are wanting to attend.  Need 5 members to run a sled !  Also desire five leaders to run stations.

Patrol Duties for February:: 

• Ceremonies: Panther • Food Box: Fox • Game Guides: Flaming Arrow • PLC Host and Troop Meeting Set-up: Wolf  • Service: Shark (Clean up and leadership assistance)  • Can Recycling:  Eagle (check every week, even if no cans brought into the gym) • Grounds: Phoenix 

PLC: February 11 at 6:30pm.  The scout-led discussion is for all youth leaders.. 

New Scout parents meeting: February 11.  Please attend if you need assistance or have questions about the T48.org navigation, troop policy and procedures, or upcoming outings.

Scouts, we understand that many of you have homework. To accommodate, we’ve started having an earlier ending to the troop meeting at 8:30pm. Scouts working on advancements or otherwise engaged are welcome to stay until the final closing at 9:00pm. If you need to leave early, we understand but please make sure that you let Mrs. Keeton, Mr. Browning or Mrs. White know. However, if you leave and are not at your patrol meeting, you won’t be counted for attendance. 

Winter Camp – Merit badge completions have been entered, with Incomplete sheets being distributed.

Upcoming Events::

3/1 Merit Badge University by Sequoyah Council at Northeast State University

Pay Mr. Browning $25 for two half day or one all-day class. T48.org is open to register and select classes online or you can see Mr. Hasler at a troop meeting to confirm class choice. Class list   For Troop 48, we’ll close registrations on Tuesday February 18.

3/4 Tuesday CPR & Basic First Aid $25 

Recommended for everyone (14+ age) going to Cumberland Island.

3/15 Chimney Top Mountain (Greene County, not Smokies) day hike 

3/15 Sustainability* Merit Badge Class 9am to 4pm @ CHPC

Taught by Mr. Simmers and Mrs. Tanner.   Limited to the first 12 scouts who tell them of your interest in the class (7 claimed).  Bring bagged lunch, pencil, and $3 to cover facility use.

3/29 JLT (Junior Leader Training) 9am to 1pm

4/8 Eagle Court of Honor

5/2-4 Boone Trail Camporee at Sycamore Shoals State Park 

District-wide Camporee. Program details have not been finalized. Registration will be open soon on the Council Calendar. We are looking for scouts and adults to serve as staff for this district event. If interested, please contact Mr. Browning. Look for updates.

2025 Super Trips – take action NOW to participate!

Cumberland Island Expedition, May 24-31. This trip is full but you can register for the wait list.

T-shirt design competition!! Attention all Cumberland Island Expedition XVI  members. Please submit a T-shirt design. The winning design will be our expedition T-shirt. 

Summer Camp – June 15-21 (starting Fathers Day) at Camp Davy Crockett 

For scouts just signing up, give the $30 deposit and $115 February payment to Mr. Browning ASAP.  

For those who have not fully paid, please make the $115 February payment.

Please register on T48.org to indicate preferences for housing and carpooling.  Contact Julieann White with any questions. 

NASA Space Camp July 17-20 Pathfinder program. Only a few Openings Remaining

Non Refundable Registration Fee Due Now. Please consider this trip. Register on T48.org and pay a $100 nonrefundable deposit to Mr. Browning ASAP. Minimum trip size is 16 with a maximum of 25. 

WFA:If you are an Adult Leader or a Scout  14 or older please let Mr.White know if you are interested in wilderness first aid ( this is suggested for all super trips, Backpacking, canoeing, climbing and biking trips. 

National Jamboree 2026, July 22-31, 2026. Ten fun days at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia with thousands of other scouts. $1,560 per person fee plus council costs. Look for registration on the Sequoyah Council website soon. First payment due in May 2025.

Feb 1st – Pinewood Derby Build Day – Come to the CHPC parking lot at 10am. Work with Mr. Brandby’s fantastic mobile woodshop 

Feb 21st – Pinewood Derby Early Check In – Drop in while we’re setting up the Pinewood Derby Track from 6-7pm the night before the race to take care of checking your car in early and ensuring it meets racing standards. We’ll keep it locked up overnight so you won’t have anything to do on race day except race!

Feb 22nd – Pinewood Derby Race Day – All the drawing, cutting, sanding, painting,
