Troop 48 Announcements – January 30, 2024 

Trip Reminder:

Night Skiing – Appalachian Ski Mountain, Friday, Jan 26 from 4:00 PM to midnight

This trip is canceled due to expected rain.

Hiking MB this Saturday, Jan 27 at Bays Mtn Park. 10-miler on familiar trails. If interested, contact Mr. Shone. He still needs an adult volunteer as well for two-deep leadership..

Troop 48 Announcements – January 30, 2024 

Congratulations! Timothy Preshong is Troop 48’s newest Eagle Scout #180. We are so proud of this young man for all his accomplishments!!! Well done!!

Announcing three new members of Leadership Corps:  Congrats Abby, Teddy and Adam.

Scout cards: Scouts earn  75% commission 

Scouts only have to sell just under 50 cards to pay for summer camp!

Klondike is coming!! Get your sled registered now !!!! Patrols need to reserve sleds

Sleds already reserved: Eagle- Fishing Sled, Fox- Lemon Sled, Panther- red sled, 

LC Bear- Conquistador sled

We will start brushing up on scouting skills and patrol spirit !!  

Tri-District Klondike Derby – Friday, Feb. 16 – Sunday, Feb. 18, Cost is $20/scout and adult

Hawksnest Snow Tubing – Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 AM

Continuous Campfire / Scouting for Food (February 2-4- Scout Sunday) at CHPC

The Pastor would like 4 senior scouts to do readings and 3-4 younger scouts to help pass out bulletins. Please contact Mrs. White if you can help.

Outing includes overnight camping Friday and Saturday night. Evening activities are fellowship and advancement. Patrols should aim to show off their cooking prowess. “Candyland” is a fun Klondike derby series of games and exercises, thus each sled should aim to participate even if NOT camping. A campfire and movie following dinner cleanup each night. Troop 48 will collect food donated and supply the CHPC pantry and Second Harvest Food Bank.

February 4 Scout Sunday CHPC 10:00 am service. Observe this important day of service and gratitude to our charter organization.The service will begin promptly at 10:00am, so don’t be late! Please remember to wear your Class A uniform to show your Scout Spirit. We hope to see all of our Scouts and their families there!

Wilderness Road District Banquet (Feb. 29th) 

Register on Sequoyah Council here. Cost is $20, partially funding the OA NOAC Trip in July. Please attend to help funding as well as recognize District Leaders.

Merit Badge University: Saturday, March 2 at Northeast State

Class registration is open! Please DO NOT register on council website as the council wants us to register as a troop.  Class information is posted on T48.org calendar entry.  (Eagle merit badges are being offered.)  Cost is Youth $25 for Patch/Lunch/two classes,  Adult $25 for Lunch and up to six classes,  Adults (Non-Participating) $10 for MBU Patch/Lunch.  Aviation has $25 fee and Welding $5.

  • Event notice also states that a BSA Medical Form must be completed by all attendees

Krissie Lawson could use adult volunteers to help with crowd control at MBU.

Summer Camp (June 16-22) 

Partial payment of $130 (including prior $25 deposit) is due in January to Mr. Browning.

See Mr. Hasler about class registration (refer to Class catalog). 

Register on T48.org to indicate preference for cabin, camp tent, hammock, or personal tent.

NOAC Registration Open – July 29 – Aug 3. OA Members interested in this event in Boulder, CO, please sign up immediately. Cost $1,800.

Hiking merit badge

Mr. Shone announced that this Eagle-required merit is now being worked (as an alternative to Swimming or Cycling).  Four 10-mile and one 20-mile hikes will be planned and enjoyed.  Second adult leader will be needed for each hike.
