Senior Patrol Leader Elections May 3,2022

Troop 48 SPL Candidates

Finn Hounshell :

Started in scouting by joining Pack 385 as a Tiger Cub, earning the Arrow of Light, and transferred to Troop 48. ( Wolf patrol ) He has been on almost every trip Troop 48 has to offer. His favorites have been

Klondike, National Jamboree, and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu

Picchu in Peru. Finn has served in the troop by being a Chaplain’s

Aide, Bugler, Wolf Patrol Leader, Den Chief of Pack 385, and

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He was named Troop 48 Scout of

Year in 2017. Fin’s Eagle project gave leadership for the construction of a

custom, wooden playground for Oasis of Kingsport, a women’s

ministry that seeks to help low socioeconomic women by providing

laundry services, showers, and classes such as sewing and cooking. Attending West Ridge High

School. He is very active at West Ridge H.S., participating in Beta

Club, Book Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student

Government – and is an officer for several of these groups. Finn

loves to challenge himself by taking many accelerated and AP

classes while still maintaining an above 4.0 GPA. He plays trumpet

in the band and was named drum major for next year’s marching

season.  He is Also, on the West Ridge Tennis team.

Jonathan Smith:

Junior at Volunteer High School. Jonathan joined Pack 286 as a Tiger Cub. He earned his Arrow of Light and joined Troop 48 in 2015. (Wolf patrol)
He served as a Patrol Leader and Quartermaster but most enjoyed his role as Troop Quartermaster. His favorite activities in scouting include going to summer camp every year, attending NYLT, and going to Dick Tracy rock. Jonathan’s Eagle Scout project took place at the B’nai Sholom Congregation. He painted and revitalized the religious school at the synagogue. He plans on attending college with a major in music education and starting a career in teaching.

Jonathan currently is a Junior at Volunteer High School. Jonathan has been involved in band and choir achieving both All-East in-band and All-State in the choir. He is also a member and officer of the SGA, Key Club, and the Jazz band at Volunteer.

Langley Brents :

Langley’s scouting journey starts with him earning his arrow of light in 2019 with pack 49. Shortly after this he transfers to troop 48 and joins flamming arrow patrol. Through flaming arrow patrol he achieved the positions of assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, and scribe. He has also taken on troop-level positions such as Chaplin’s aid and assistant quartermaster. He has recently also been asked to be aspl of the service for national youth leadership training. His favorite scouting trips start with Grayson Highlands backpacking but still include summer camp, Klondike, and dick Tracy rock. He is currently star rank approaching life rank. He is currently in the 8th grade attending John Sevier Middle School in Kingsport. At the school, he is a part of the golf team that just won the district tournament. He is also in the school show “The Music Man”. He wants to be a senior patrol leader because he wants to solve some of the problems that exist within the troop. He also thinks that he has plenty of leadership experience to benefit the troop

Timothy Preshong:

Timothy joined Troop 48 (Wolf patrol ) at age 11. From there he quickly got involved with current activities and strived to earn ranks quickly. He enjoys all of Troop 48’s activities, especially backpacking and Summer Camp. Some of his favorite merit badges are Wilderness Survival, Camping, and Cooking. Timothy is currently a Life scout. While in Troop 48, Timothy has served in many positions, including Scribe, Historian, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Chaplain’s Aide, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. In 2021 he was named the Scout of the Week at CDC and was also given the Most Merit Badges Earned Award for the 2021 year. 

Timothy is also committed to other activities. He plays violin in his church orchestra, is a leader in his choir, and especially enjoys playing the piano. Timothy also works several yard work jobs. Timothy wants to serve as Senior Patrol Leader. He wants to continue the good progress of the troop and introduce new ideas that will build Troop 48’s leadership and increase the advancement, character, and overall progress.
