SUMMARY:2021 Wreaths Across America
DESCRIPTION:\n\n&nbsp\;\n[avatar user="Mr Gould" size="thumbnail" align="le
ft" /]\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nFor Saturday\, December 18\, the ceremony begins at
12:00Noon.  It remains at the “historic” side of the cemetery complex
(next to Market Street).\n\nIf you are planning to join us for National W
reaths Across America Day at Mountain Home this year (Saturday\, Dec. 18\,
2021)\, there are a few tips to keep in mind to help make your experience
a great one! As for the "semi-formal" (and still abbreviated)\, 12:00Noon
ceremony prior to the wreath placement\, there is a partial return toward
some level of normal. But regardless of the weather and any "updated" pub
lic health protocols in effect (please be considerate of others)\, wreaths
will be placed. We hope to at least cover all of the flat markers in the
"historic section".\n\nAccess. Parking is available in the lots immediatel
y outside of the cemetery gate. Due to safety concerns\, vehicle access wi
ll be closed during the ceremony and wreath placement.\n\nThe audience is
asked to assemble (in a loose grouping) in front of the new Public Informa
tion Center building. Tents and chairs are not provided this year. We do h
ope\, however\, to have golf carts for visitors with ambulatory issues who
wish to visit loved ones during the wreath placement.\n\nDress for the we
ather. Remember: this is a rain or shine\, sleet or snow event! As it was
last year\, winter…and Christmas…will again be upon us. But\, we shoul
d always remember that for Veterans throughout our history\, Christmas has
often been spent far from home and their loved ones. Very often\, soldier
s have spent Christmas in conditions like the winter of 1777 at Valley For
ge\; and those who fought at Bastogne\, during the Battle of the Bulge in
WWII. Many died in places they had never heard of - in far-off jungles…d
esert sands…and in muddy trenches and frozen forests in Europe. They sac
rificed their tomorrows so we could have today. But\, after we place the w
reaths\, we will all go home and be safe and warm. They could not.\n\nBe p
atient. Remember…Wreaths Across America is run by volunteers who work h
ard behind the scenes to move things along as quickly and safely as possib
le.\n\nTake your time. Please pause at each headstone and say that veteran
's name out loud and thank them for their service before moving on. It is
not a race to see how quickly we can place the wreaths. If there are not e
nough sponsored wreaths to honor every veteran at Mountain Home\, we hope
you will still take time to stop at headstones that do not have a wreath t
o say the Veteran's name.\n\nBe respectful. Not only to each other. We ar
e guests of the cemetery\, so please abide by all cemetery policies and re
member that you are walking on sacred\, hallowed grounds.\n\nRemember –
Honor – Teach. The event you will be participating in is happening all a
round the country at over 2\,700 locations. Millions of Americans just lik
e you have taken time out of the busiest of seasons to gather together in
their community to offer a simple gesture of thanks to those who fought fo
r our freedoms.\n\nJoin us on National Wreaths Across America Day December
18\, 2021\n\n\nEach December on National Wreaths Across America Day\, our
mission to Remember\, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wrea
th-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery\, as well as at more t
han 2\,100 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states\, at sea and abroad.
\nThis is a Sequoyah Council service opportunity.\nMeet @ the Gazebo (Red
