DESCRIPTION:20210320 Troop 48 Sand Cave Hike v 2.1(Trip Sheet)\nWe will be 
 assembling at exit 69 at 8:15 AM to travel 1.5 hours to the Ewing trail. T
 here we will hike to the Sand Cave and White Rocks. The hike will be a tot
 al of 8.3 miles and we will climb and descend over 2000 feet. We will eat 
 lunch during the hike. This is not a beginner hike Those who participate n
 eed to have experience hiking and be in good physical condition. We should
  aim to begin the hike around 10 AM. Allowing for 3 hours of hiking we wil
 l have an hour on site and to eat lunch. We should aim to begin the return
  hike around 2 PM and arrive back to the vehicles around 5 PM. Plan on a s
 hort dinner stop and arrive back to CHPC by 7:15 PM.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nTrail D
 escription:  The trail starts at Civic Park in Ewing\, VA\, crosses into 
 Cumberland Gap National Historic park\, and begins as three miles that cli
 mbs about 2\,000 feet through a series of switchbacks. There are several g
 reat vistas along the way\, and you'll have several views of White Rocks u
 p above the trail. The trail lollipops\, so pass the hikers only trail at 
 2.5 miles as this will be the way you come back. At the junction with the 
 Hensley Settlement trail at 4 miles\, bear right then left toward the Sand
  Caves. After exploring the Sand Caves\, run back up the trail and bear le
 ft at the junction. At 5.5 miles\, you'll meet a horse barricade with a si
 gn pointing to the Ewing Trail. Continue on this trail to the White Rocks 
 which you can climb for a pretty view. Then enjoy your descent back to the
  starting point via the Ewing Trail.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nDriving Directions:  T
 urn left on Colonial Heights Road (0.3 Mi). Turn Right onto Ft. Henry Driv
 e (2. 5 Mi). Merge onto TN-93 N via ramp to Bristol (6.3 Mi). Continue on 
 State Route 701/VA 224 N (3.2 Mi). Continue onto US 421/US 58 W (0.3 Mi). 
 Turn right onto US 23 N/US 421 N/US 58 W/Main Street (17.8 Mi). Turn left 
 onto Us 421 N/US 58 W (19.7 Mi). Turn right to stay on US 58 N (217 Ft). T
 urn left at the first cross street onto US 58 W/Main Street (20.1 Mi). Tur
 n right onto S R 724 (0.9 Mi). Keep left (0.1 Mi). Slight left onto Civita
